Project Statement:
No More a good Citizen
Ricardo Cuevas
Discourses around art are full of ingenuousness and misunderstandings. Here is one I would like to preserve: the idea in which art offers us a more complete and more complex idea of ourselves, as individuals, as well as a society. I would like to think that art doesn't reduce itself solely to the production of objects ready to be consumed or to contemplation.
More than this, art would be a tool to help us restate our relation with reality. Sharing ideas, proposing alternative readings to everyday situations, or maybe just pointing to where it would be good to look at.
The works I'm proposing for this grant try to offer a different approach to the relation we keep with information, using as raw material the misunderstandings, the fragmented messages, the loss in translation, the contemporary exigency for the short version, etc. The constant search for a wider field of interpretations to face everyday life that are found within these works makes me think that the purpose must be prolonged to the moment the works reach the public.
