The international studio & curatorial program (ISCP) invites you to our spring Open Studios & Grand Opening.

MEXICAN PARTICIPATING ARTIST: JOAQUIN SEGURA

JOAQUIN SEGURA (Mexico City, 1980)
Visual artist. Lives and works in Mexico City. His action, installation, intervention and photographic work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Mexico, USA and Europe. Some spaces that have featured his work include La Panaderia, Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil, Centro de la Imagen and Ex-Teresa Arte Actual in Mexico City, along with Outpost for Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, CA, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid, National Center for Contemporary Art, Moscow, Russia and Palace Adria in Prague, Czech Republic. In 2006, he received a production grant from La Coleccion Jumex to support his project Fire in the Taco Bell, in collaboration with Renato Garza. Other activities include filmmaking and assuming curatorial duties for several projects. He’s currently developing a solo show project for Arena México Arte Contemporáneo, due late 2008. www.arenamexico.com 

This will be the first major public event at ISCP’s new facilities in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. In addition to 26 beautiful studios and improved office space, we are now able to present exhibitions, talks, film screenings, and other events in our integrated gallery space. Open Studios marks the beginning of a considerable expansion of ISCP’s mission involving a revised residency program, new collaborations, international visibility and neighborhood outreach.

ISCP hosts Open Studios twice a year to give the public, art professionals and art enthusiasts access to the program’s artists and curators from around the world. Free to the public, the Open Studios weekend presents recent artworks and projects by the participants in the residency program, providing an exclusive peek of the production, process, and personal archive of 27 artists from 20 countries. The current residents represent a wide range of conceptual interests and artistic choices that take form through painting, sculpture, drawing, installation, video, film, new media, artists’ books, criticism and any number of hybrid formats.

Founded in 1994, ISCP has hosted more than 750 artists and curators whose participation in the program have resulted in substantial career growth, while contributing to the diversity of New York’s international arts community. ISCP’s program is carefully designed to connect residents to local institutions, key art professionals and a broad range of international visitors, while introducing New York audiences to global contemporary art practices. The interaction between artists, curators, and critics creates opportunities supporting every stage of artistic development – intellectual exchange, critical feedback, invitations to participate in exhibition, long-term collaborations and gallery representation to name a few – with the ultimate goal of promoting awareness of the diversity of global artistic expression. Relocating to East Williamsburg provides an appropriate platform for this ambition, while ensuring the long-term sustainability and flexibility of ISCP’s activities.
