THE WORD EXCHANGE
3rd Annual U.S./México Playwright Exchange Program

A 10-day residency and theatrical dialogue between 4 Mexican playwrights, 4 U.S. playwrights, and the Lark community. Through the translation of new Mexican plays, the development of these plays with established U.S. artists, and New York cultural exploration, the program establishes ongoing channels of communication and collaboration between artists in the U.S. and México.

4PM - THE CAMELS (Los Camellos) by Luis Ayhllón

This black comedy is the original "reality theatre.” A wicked showman pays a dysfunctional family to appear onstage as themselves - for the rest of their lives.

4PM - DECOMPOSITION (Descomposición) by Jose Alfonso Carcamo
Translated by Mariana Carreño King
A wrenching portrait of two friends and the actors who play them, confronting the ills of a classist society and discovering that everyone’s soul suffers a process of decomposition.

8PM – THE MAIDS OF HONOUR (Las Meninas) by
Ernesto Anaya

Diego Velázquez’s masterpiece, Las Meninas, desperately comes-to-comic-life. With strokes born of desperation, the artist reclaims his artistic soul through the raw humanity of those he truly paints.
