Mexican Literature in the Age of Obama

Speakers: Humberto Beck, Christopher Domínguez, Alvaro Enrigue, Valeria Luiselli, Antonio Ortuño
A group of Mexico’s most prominent literary critics and novelists—Beck (Gabriel Zaid: lectura y conversación), Domínguez (La sabiduría sin promesa. Vida y letras del siglo XX), Enrigue (moderator) (Vidas perpendiculares), Luiselli (editor, Letras Libres), and Ortuño (Recursos humanos)—will
read selections of their work and explore the cultural, social, and
political ramifications of Mexican literature today, particularly in
light of the bicentennial of Mexico’s independence and the centennial
of its revolution, and in light of current developments in Mexico, the
United States, and elsewhere in the world. The participating writers
are all represented in Review 80 (The 21st Century Mexico Issue, Spring 2010), which will be launched on May 20.
This panel discussion will be in Spanish with simultaneous translation.
